Google Proposes Search Ranking Changes to Settle EU Digital Markets Act Probe

GateNews

According to Bloomberg, Google proposed changes to how it ranks news sites in the European Union to settle a Digital Markets Act investigation and avoid additional penalties. The probe, which began in late 2025, centers on whether Google’s site reputation abuse policy unfairly lowered some publishers’ Search rankings. The proposal would loosen parts of the policy. Google has already accumulated 9.5 billion euros in EU competition fines across four cases and faces other ongoing DMA inquiries.
