Just realized a lot of people are confused about changing bank details for their SASSA grants, especially with December payments coming up. Let me break down what I learned because it's actually pretty different depending on which grant you're getting.

If you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, you can't just do this online unfortunately. You actually have to go physically to your nearest SASSA office with your ID and proof of your new bank account (bank statement or letter, nothing older than 3 months). They'll give you a form to fill out, and here's the thing – the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything. Once they process it, it takes about 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. If you're changing bank details, try to do it before the 15th of the month or you'll miss that month's payment.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's way easier. Everything's online through the official SASSA portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you just update your banking info from there. Same rule though – account must be in your name. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks.

For updating your phone number, permanent grants need you to visit the office or call 0800 60 10 11. But with SRD, there's an online contact portal where you can update your cell number yourself – they'll send you an OTP to verify. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some random site claiming to help you change your details. Seen too many scam sites out there.

The whole process is honestly a bit tedious but it's worth getting it right so your payments don't get delayed. Anyone else had issues with changing bank details recently?
