The US-Iran ceasefire, Bitcoin surges past 72k—Little Wealth God reports on shorting damages

Waking up this morning, the bears' sky fell. Before 8 a.m. Beijing time, the US and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire and face-to-face negotiations scheduled for April 10. Influenced by the news, the bulls launched a full counterattack. Little Wealth God’s short positions suffered serious losses. Let’s review my damage report and trading summary.

📊First, let’s revisit what happened during the past 24 hours of chaos.

Around 6 a.m. on April 8, just as President Trump’s deadline for Iran approached, Pakistan announced that Iran, the US, and their allies had agreed to an immediate ceasefire in all regions, including Lebanon, “effective immediately.” Pakistani Prime Minister Shabaz said he welcomed US and Iranian delegations to Islamabad on April 10 for further negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement to resolve all disputes. He hopes the “Islamabad talks” will achieve lasting peace.

【US side】On the evening of April 7, President Trump posted on social media, “I agree to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to fully, immediately, and safely open the Strait of Hormuz.” “This will be a mutual ceasefire.”

【Iran side】Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi announced early on April 8 on behalf of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council that Iran will hold two weeks of political negotiations in Islamabad with the US “to confirm the victory achieved on the ground.” Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz will be secured for safe navigation during this period.

At the same time, Iran released the main points of its 10 ceasefire terms submitted to the US via Pakistan: controlled passage through the Strait of Hormuz coordinated with Iranian armed forces; an end to all wars against regional resistance forces; US military forces withdraw from all bases and deployment points in the region; establish a security protocol for the Strait of Hormuz to ensure Iran’s dominant position; full compensation for Iran’s damages as estimated; lift all primary and secondary sanctions, revoke relevant UN and IAEA resolutions; unblock all frozen Iranian assets and properties abroad; and finally, ratify all these terms through a binding UN Security Council resolution.

📈Financial Market Performance

APAC stocks rally across the board

As the leading global stock markets, Asia-Pacific markets surged early, with the Korean Composite Index soaring over 6% triggering a circuit breaker, and the Nikkei 225 up over 4%. China’s A-shares rose about 2% at the open, and the ChiNext index nearly 5%. US stock futures also jumped, with all three major indices up over 2%.

Bitcoin surges past $72,000

Bitcoin was strongly influenced by the news, rallying northward to a high of $72,741. It is currently at $71,262. Ethereum surged nearly 7%, reaching a high of $2,273, now at $2,232. Main altcoins like SOL, XRP, and DOGE also rose.

From a technical perspective, Bitcoin has broken through both daily and weekly resistance levels. The upper resistance is near the previous high of $75,900. After a continuous rally, the price has deviated from the daily MA5, indicating a potential pullback.

Gold rises above 4,800 points

Gold reached a high of $4,888 early in the session, now at $4,828.4, slightly off the high. On the daily chart, the price is constrained by the MA30, suggesting a possible correction or pullback.

Oil plummets 16%

Due to Iran’s announcement to open the Strait of Hormuz in two weeks, oil prices plunged sharply. WTI crude fell 15.3%, closing at $95.67, erasing gains from the past week. It’s a classic case of hard-earned gains wiped out in a day.

🔍What’s next for layout?

The ceasefire between both sides will undoubtedly stabilize the fundamentals in the short term, at least until the April 10 negotiations.

However, based on the statements and core demands from both US and Iran, reaching an agreement remains challenging. Iran’s demands for US military withdrawal from the Middle East, war reparations, and recognition of Iran’s uranium enrichment activities are unlikely to be accepted by the US. Therefore, there may still be negative news during future negotiations. Currently, this might be the “safest” time to act. In the coming days, watch out for a “profit-taking” trend after the gains are exhausted. It’s advisable to take partial profits on long positions in batches and consider short positions on rallies.

Key levels to watch:

Bitcoin: Support at 70,270 (top-bottom reversal point)

Resistance at 72,500

Ethereum: Support at 2,175 (top-bottom reversal point)

Resistance at 2,275

Gold: Support at 4,600

Resistance at 4,900

Oil: Support at 90

Resistance at 100

📝Finally, I want to share my loss situation and some reflections on this wave of market movements.

Damage report: 【Bitcoin short】Entry: 69,500, Stop-loss: 70,500

【Crude oil long】Entry: 98.5, Stop-loss: 94

Although the losses aren’t large in terms of data, they still hurt. Especially the crude oil long, which had a profit of about 20 USD but was stopped out at 118, turning gains into losses. No more words—talking about it just hurts.

Reflections: 1. Don’t bet big on major events or gamble on the market: This morning’s turn was entirely news-dependent—either a big rise or a big fall. The right approach is to reduce position sizes and avoid betting on direction based on personal judgment. I’ve made this mistake before before major non-farm payroll and CPI releases, resulting in more losses than wins. Hope not to repeat it.

2. Always set a stop-loss when trading: This time, because of large positions, the losses were heavier. But I’m glad I didn’t get liquidated for wrong direction because I set stop-losses in advance, preventing losses from expanding. Everyone should remember to always include stop-loss orders when opening positions, whether in spot or derivatives!
