Just read something interesting about Gavin Wood that really puts things in perspective. The guy stepped back from Parity's CEO role a couple years ago because, honestly, he realized day-to-day management was killing his ability to think deeply. He needed space to actually build something meaningful.
So what did he do with that time? Spent it working on JAM, this massive upgrade for Polkadot that's been quietly taking shape. And now that it's ready, the market's ready, and Polkadot 2.0 is actually happening, he's back as CEO. But here's the thing that caught my attention - he's not coming back to be some crypto messiah figure. He's explicit about this: leaders shouldn't be what matters in crypto. The whole point of Polkadot is that power is distributed, not concentrated in one person.
What's wild is his take on the broader industry. He sees Ethereum's Layer 2 solutions as basically a power grab, and he's not shy about saying most coins are just noise without real utility. But he's genuinely optimistic about what they're building. JAM is designed to solve hard problems first, which is a different approach than a lot of projects take.
The deeper thing he's talking about though - and this applies beyond crypto - is that real progress means building systems where people actually have control. Not depending on some central authority, whether that's a person or a platform. Freedom isn't just a concept, it's about structuring things so people can actually own their own lives.
He's pretty clear that curiosity matters more than titles or money. That's the energy driving him back to lead this next phase of Polkadot's evolution. Whether you're into the project or not, there's something refreshing about a founder who actually steps away when he realizes he's not the right fit for a role, then comes back when he has something concrete to build.
