Sylwester Suszek: The Mysterious Disappearance of a Bitcoin Pioneer

The case of Sylwester Suszek remains one of the most mysterious in the cryptocurrency world. The founder and longtime head of Poland’s leading crypto platform BitBay disappeared without a trace on March 10, 2022. At the time, 34 years old, Suszek was known as an innovative entrepreneur who had advanced Bitcoin adoption in Poland. But from that spring day onward, there has been no sign of him — a case that remains unresolved to this day.

The Last Known Moments of Suszek

Investigators followed a straightforward lead: Suszek was last seen at a gas station after attending a business meeting. However, the security cameras at the location were not operational that day — raising questions. Despite intensive police investigations over the following years, the whereabouts of the Bitcoin entrepreneur have never been established. Official inquiries reached a dead end, and the case gradually faded from the headlines.

Suspicious Clues and Extortion Attempts

What Suszek’s family did not give up on was independent investigation. His sister Nicole continued her inquiries and made disturbing discoveries. Four days after the disappearance, Suszek’s phone reconnected to a mobile network — while moving along a highway. Even more alarming were the messages Nicole received: a voice message resembling Suszek’s voice demanding bitcoins worth approximately 12 million Polish zloty. The electronically distorted recording ended with a dark threat: “In one week, there will be a photo of the body.” Nicole refused the demand and reported the extortion attempts to authorities. Further messages threatening mutilation followed.
