In the past two days (January 29–30, 2026), the instability in trading on the Polymarket platform was mainly caused by performance issues of the underlying blockchain network Polygon, leading to delays in transaction execution, outdated data refreshes, and various bugs in the user interface. Specific manifestations include: • Trading delays and inaccurate data: The platform officials warned that due to Polygon network failures, users' transaction records, price updates, balance displays, and position information may experience delays or errors, and users should operate cautiously. This can result in failed orders or display anomalies, especially in high-frequency markets such as sports events or short-term predictions. • Bugs and functional failures: Multiple users reported failures in executing limit buy/sell orders, temporary disabling of sell functions, sudden disappearance of positions, or forced rollbacks. For example, in some real-time events, buy orders are processed normally, but sell orders are blocked, leading to potential losses; or profit positions are "erased" by the system, only returning the principal rather than the profit. • Liquidity and market structure issues: Polymarket's on-chain market liquidity is relatively thin, and large orders can easily cause slippage and wide spreads, further amplifying instability, especially in volatile markets such as government shutdown predictions or short-term cryptocurrency bets. Additionally, user feedback indicates slow support response and unresolved fund-related issues, worsening the user experience. These problems are not isolated incidents but are chain reactions caused by the overall load or maintenance of the Polygon network. The platform has acknowledged these issues within the community and advised users to monitor, but short-term risks may still persist. If you are an active trader, it is recommended to diversify your positions or wait for the network to stabilize.
