Trust Wallet Addresses Browser Extension Security Incident, Reaffirms Commitment to User Protection
Trust Wallet today confirmed a security incident involving a compromised update of its Chrome browser extension and announced full reimbursement for all affected users. The incident was promptly identified, contained, and resolved, with no impact on Trust Wallet mobile applications or other extension versions.
Incident Overview
On December 24, 2025, Trust Wallet detected unusual activity linked to version 2.68 of its Chrome browser extension. Subsequent investigation revealed that malicious code had been introduced into the update, enabling unauthorized access to sensitive wallet data when users unlocked the extension.
The issue was isolated exclusively to version 2.68 of the Chrome extension. Trust Wallet mobile applications and all other browser-extension versions remained secure and unaffected.
Immediate Response and Containment
Upon confirmation of the issue, Trust Wallet took the following actions:
Immediately disabled the affected extension version
Released a secure update (version 2.69) through the official Chrome Web Store
Issued public advisories instructing users to disable the compromised version and upgrade
Warned users against phishing websites impersonating official fixes
Launched an internal investigation into the root cause of the incident
Trust Wallet also confirmed that it will fully reimburse all verified losses resulting from the incident.
Scope and Impact
Preliminary estimates indicate that approximately USD 7 million in digital assets across multiple blockchains were affected before the issue was contained. Trust Wallet is working closely with blockchain investigators and security partners to trace funds and strengthen internal safeguards.
Commitment to Security
“User security is our top priority,” Trust Wallet stated. “While this incident involved a highly sophisticated supply-chain attack, our teams acted quickly to protect users, resolve the issue, and ensure all affected users are made whole.”
Trust Wallet is implementing additional security controls, including enhanced code-review procedures, stricter deployment access controls, and improved real-time monitoring to further strengthen its development and release processes.
Guidance for Users
Trust Wallet advises users to:
Ensure they are running version 2.69 or later of the Chrome extension
Never share or enter seed phrases online
Use hardware wallets or cold storage for large balances
Remain vigilant against phishing attempts following security incidents
Users who believe they were affected are encouraged to contact Trust Wallet support through official channels.
Looking Forward
Trust Wallet remains committed to transparency, continuous improvement, and safeguarding user assets. A detailed post-incident review will be published to share findings and lessons learned with the broader crypto community.
