Brazilian government removes import tax on Bitcoin mining equipment

The Brazilian federal government has eliminated import taxes on equipment used for [Bitcoin][image]( mining operations, expanding the list of products eligible for this benefit through two GECEX decisions (823 and 824), which have been published in the Official Gazette.

This measure adjusts and supplements previous regulations by including new items related to the infrastructure required to maintain domestic [mining])( sites within the special tariff regime. These exemptions are valid until November 30, 2027.

The decisions update the annexes of previous regulations, removing some old tax-exempt items and including new goods with zero tariffs upon import. Benefiting items include complete server storage and cooling structures specifically for cryptocurrency mining, as well as functional units of the “modular data center” type.

The measure is consistent with previous government decisions. Earlier this May, the country had already granted exemptions for some Bitcoin mining equipment, including mobile data center infrastructure and SHA-256 algorithm rig cooling systems. This new decision focuses on almost the same types of items, covering servers dedicated to cryptocurrency mining using the SHA256 algorithm.

With the new decisions, the government has expanded and reorganized this set of eligible products, reinforcing the trend of treating mining equipment as capital goods subject to industrial and commercial policy, rather than as general consumer goods.
