Google finalizes 2029 quantum encryption migration node, blockchain security faces a critical test

GateNews

Gate News reports that in March 2026, Google officially announced its post-quantum cryptography (PQC) migration timeline, aiming to complete critical system upgrades by 2029. This plan marks a clear step forward in the tech giant’s response to the potential threats posed by quantum computing and provides a timeframe for global digital infrastructure.

Google stated that this timeline is based on three major technological advancements: improvements in quantum computing hardware performance, breakthroughs in quantum error correction, and a reassessment of the resource requirements for quantum algorithms. As these factors mature, the risks faced by traditional encryption systems are being re-evaluated. In particular, the “store now, decrypt later” attack vector—where attackers preemptively steal encrypted data and wait for quantum capabilities to mature before decrypting—has become a real threat model.

In terms of strategy, Google is prioritizing the transition of authentication systems to PQC, emphasizing the urgency of upgrading digital signature mechanisms. The company believes that, compared to data encryption itself, a breach in the authentication system would pose a more immediate systemic risk. Therefore, its engineering teams have been advised to prioritize deploying quantum-resistant signature algorithms.

On the technical front, Android 17 has begun integrating post-quantum digital signatures based on the ML-DSA algorithm, which is standardized by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and is part of the lattice-based cryptography family. Meanwhile, Google Chrome and cloud services are also advancing PQC compatibility, gradually building a comprehensive quantum-resistant security framework.

This development holds significant implications for the blockchain industry. Currently, major public chains like Ethereum are also planning long-term upgrade paths, with some target dates around 2029. Although the market generally perceives the quantum threat as still years away, early deployment by leading tech companies indicates that the paradigm of cryptographic security is entering a new phase. In the coming years, technological competition around quantum-resistant encryption, on-chain asset security, and digital identity systems is likely to accelerate noticeably.

U.S. banks question the White House’s stablecoin yield report, concerned about the risk of deposit outflows

U.S. banks are questioning a White House stablecoin yield report, arguing that it overlooks the impact of stablecoins on deposit outflows, which could lead to higher financing costs and reduced local lending. The two sides are currently negotiating an agreement on the Senate bill, and a ban on paying stablecoin interest is the focus of the dispute.

Banking industry questions the White House’s stablecoin report, allegations that the crisis of community bank deposit outflows was deliberately avoided

The American Bankers Association criticizes the White House’s research framework in its stablecoin report, saying it overlooks the risk of deposit outflows that could be triggered by prohibiting stablecoin yield. The White House report says the ban will have only a minimal impact on bank lending, increasing it by just $2.1 billion, but the ABA believes this issue’s framework fails to reflect the risks that would actually harm community banks and support the local economy. This dispute is also tied to the current cryptocurrency regulatory legislative efforts, shaping the future development of stablecoins and the competitive landscape for banks.
