The crypto asset firm Ripple just announced a strategic partnership with a bank in South Africa.

Ripple says it’s teaming up with Absa Bank to deliver institutional-grade digital asset custody services.

This marks Ripple’s first major custody collaboration on the continent, enabling Absa to offer secure storage for crypto and tokenized assets amid rising institutional demand.

The partnership leverages Ripple’s scalable technology to meet regulatory and security standards, supporting Absa’s customers in exploring blockchain-based solutions.

Absa, which is one of Africa’s largest financial groups with operations in multiple countries, will integrate the custody offering through its Corporate and Investment Banking division.

According to Ripple’s 2025 New Value Report, 64% of Middle East and Africa finance leaders are now prioritizing faster payments via blockchain technology.
