President Donald Trump revived calls to verify Fort Knox gold reserves in a May 10 interview, as the Kentucky depository holds about 147 million ounces. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in February 2025 that annual internal verifications account for every bar, but Trump announced no new inspection or timeline. The last public audit involving outside observers occurred in 1974, and a related bill from Representative Thomas Massie remains stalled in committee.
