Alibaba Group establishes a new Group Technology Committee, upgrades the Tongyi Large Model Division, and accelerates AI development
On the afternoon of April 8, news was learned that Alibaba Group CEO Wu Yongming released an internal letter announcing adjustments to AI-related organizations, including the establishment of a new Group Technology Committee, an upgrade to the Tongyi Large Model business unit, and accelerated AI development.
According to the internal letter, Alibaba has set up a Technology Committee at the group level, with Wu Yongming serving as team leader. Members include Zhou Jingren, Wu Zeming, and Li Feifei. Among them, Zhou Jingren serves as the Chief AI Architect of the Technology Committee; Li Feifei is responsible for Alibaba Cloud technology and the development of AI cloud infrastructure; and Wu Zeming is responsible for building the group’s business technology platform and AI inference platform.
Around the overall goal of accelerating AI development, Alibaba will also upgrade Tongyi Laboratory to the Tongyi Large Model business unit, led by Zhou Jingren; Li Feifei will be appointed as Alibaba Cloud CTO; Wu Zeming will focus on Alibaba Group CTO work, and the CEO position of Taobao Flash Purchase will be taken over by Lei Yanqun.
2026 is a key year for Alibaba’s AI acceleration and development. From the establishment of the ATH business group with the core goal of “creating tokens, delivering tokens, and applying tokens,” to the latest model Qwen 3.6 Plus taking the No. 1 spot in the weekly global large-model call volume on OpenRouter, Alibaba’s new moves in the AI field have continued. This adjustment means consolidating advantageous forces and resources, putting investment into the most critical battleground, indicating that Alibaba has entered a phase of full-scale AI acceleration.
