Surveys show that Chinese women are increasingly aware of their subjectivity, with more than half of women saying they would not give up their careers for their families.
On March 6th, just before International Women’s Day, Zhaopin released the “2026 China Women’s Workplace Status Survey Report.” The report shows that currently, Chinese women’s awareness of their own agency is increasing, experiencing a breakthrough growth from “seeking fairness” to “pursuing development,” and their workplace value is gaining more recognition and rewards.
It is understood that by 2026, the average monthly salary for women will reach 9,299 yuan, a significant increase compared to last year, while the gender pay gap remains around 13%. In the path toward promoting gender equality in the workplace, women are demonstrating mature and constructive thinking. “Enhancing women’s voice” has risen from the fourth to the third position (59.5%) in initiatives to promote gender equality (2025 to 2026). Meanwhile, in terms of “leadership training (especially designing promotion channels for women),” support among women is 44.4%, 16.5 percentage points higher than men, reflecting women’s strong desire to break traditional role constraints and unleash value in management positions.
In wealth distribution and family decision-making, women show strong independence and long-term planning. 23.5% of women allocate their income for further education and self-improvement. Their investments in spiritual consumption (33.8%), savings, and financial management (25.8%) are also higher than men. Over half (50.3%) of women say it is “impossible” or “unlikely” to give up their careers for family reasons, with younger generations such as “post-00s” and “post-95s” showing even stronger determination to pursue their careers.
