Abstract generation in progress

Anthropic is growing faster than almost any other company in tech history, but it has just hit a massive political wall. On March 4, reports showed that the company is on track to bring in nearly $20 billion in annual revenue. This is a huge jump from the $9 billion it was making at the end of 2025. However, this financial success is happening at the same time as a public fight with the Department of Defense. Anthropic is valued at $380 billion, but its future with the U.S. government is now in doubt.

The Fight Is Over AI Safety Rules

The trouble started because Anthropic wants strict rules on how its AI is used. The company pushed for limits to stop the Pentagon from using its technology for spying or for weapons that can act on their own.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth responded by calling the company a “supply-chain risk.” This is a serious label usually saved for companies from enemy countries. This move is designed to stop the U.S. government and other partner firms from buying Anthropic’s software. Dean Ball, a former White House adviser, called the government’s move “attempted corporate murder.” Anthropic has fired back, calling the decision “legally unsound” and saying they are ready to fight it in court.

Anthropic’s Coding Tools Drive Record Growth

Despite the legal drama, businesses and regular people are flocking to Anthropic’s tools. The big winner has been a tool called Claude Code, which helps software engineers automate difficult tasks.

The data shows that Anthropic’s revenue run rate hit $19 billion recently, up from $14 billion just a few weeks ago. This means that while the government is angry, the private market is buying more than ever. Even everyday users are showing support; Anthropic’s main app recently hit the top of the Apple AAPL -0.37% ▼ download charts. Many see this surge as a sign that people are taking the company’s side in the feud with the Pentagon.

Anthropic Sees Surging Public Support amid Government Ban

The public support for Anthropic is not just showing up in app store rankings, it’s also visible in the company’s digital footprint.

According to data from TipRanks, Anthropic’s follower base jumped to 2,240,845. This includes a 4.13% week-over-week increase, adding 89,000 new followers in just seven days. While the Pentagon is trying to build a wall against the company, Anthropic’s popularity is building a powerful public defense.
