On March 4th, early this morning, Junyang Lin, the technical lead of Qwen, briefly announced his departure on the X platform. Another technical lead, Binyuan Hui (@huybery), also updated his profile to “Former Alibaba Qwen Team MTS.” Additionally, Kaixin Li, a core contributor to Qwen 3.5, Qwen VL, and Qwen Coder, posted a farewell message early this morning. Notably, the Qwen team released the Qwen 3.5 small model series yesterday, which received widespread praise from the community. According to analysts, the change in Alibaba Cloud’s evaluation method for the Qwen team is the direct reason for the departure of key team members.
