The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has caused a sharp rise in international oil prices, with U.S. stocks falling more than 2% in early trading. However, President Trump stated that the U.S. will provide insurance for oil shipments passing through the Persian Gulf and that the U.S. Navy can escort if necessary. Stock markets subsequently narrowed their losses; can Trump keep oil prices in check? How will the stock market react moving forward?

There are no signs of de-escalation in the Middle East conflict. Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Tuesday but could not sustain the gains, turning down nearly 300 points, though the decline was smaller than in South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
