Uniswap Founder Hayden Adams: The Financial System Must Always Remain Operational and Accessible, Which Is Why We Need a Global Distributed Ledger

On March 2nd, the Dubai Stock Exchange announced a trading halt without providing a timeline for resumption. This decision sparked widespread discussion among industry practitioners in the crypto space. Hayden Adams, the founder of Uniswap, shared his views on the matter.

The incident was triggered when the Dubai Stock Exchange announced its closure on Monday, "until further notice." This meant that in the following hours, investors would be unable to trade or "sell their held assets."

In response, Hayden Adams clearly expressed his stance on social media, stating that restricting trading only deprives consumers of their choice, and at this critical moment, people need liquidity for their assets more than ever. He also emphasized that the financial system must always remain open and accessible.

Subsequently, some users pointed out in discussions that the trading halt at Dubai Exchange might have practical technical considerations. Specifically, its matching engine is physically located inside the Dubai Metro, not built in a remote desert bunker away from risks;

This geographical setup could make the system more susceptible to physical environmental impacts under certain circumstances. Therefore, the exchange's decision to pause trading was based on infrastructure safety considerations.

In response, Hayden Adams said, "This is exactly why we need a global distributed ledger." He believes that dispersing trading systems around the world can prevent systemic risks associated with a single physical location, ensuring the continuous availability of financial infrastructure.

While this discussion was ongoing, some users questioned Hayden Adams, asking why, if they advocate for open trading, Uniswap removed trading permissions for a certain token and why related appeals have not been handled fairly. Hayden Adams has not yet responded to this.
