The rise of gold is always a disaster.

Even holding gold doesn't feel very good; it appreciates in value, but the gains are miserable. When the world collapses, the economy fails, and lives are devastated... Basically, whatever real industry you try to develop will almost always go wrong, turning into a left-side trade.
