Hamaney was not the person effectively ruling the country in practice. His life or death is not of critical importance to the regime. For about 5 years, the responsibility and directorship of the current regime in Iran have been in the hands of Ali Laricani. If Hamaney has gone, the new Iranian leader will likely be Laricani.
