Google plans to provide free Gemini AI training to 6 million teachers across the United States

Tech Home, February 23 — Google today announced a new initiative in partnership with educational organizations ISTE and ASCD to provide free Gemini AI training for 6 million teachers across the United States.

Citing a Google press release, Tech Home reports that the training courses cover how to use Google’s own AI products Gemini and NotebookLM, aiming to help teachers and 74 million students learn how to safely use AI in the classroom. The courses are designed to be simple and practical, offering specific examples.

Additionally, the program is expected to launch in the coming months, and interested teachers can sign up directly through Google.

Of course, there is a clear strategic intent behind this “free lunch.” Google hopes that students will become familiar with its tools during their studies, ensuring they continue to use and rely on these ecosystems in their future careers. OpenAI and Anthropic have also implemented similar strategies, often partnering with universities to offer AI memberships at discounts or even for free to college students.
