Hey, I just found out that in Veracruz they’ve been enforcing the updated traffic fines for a few months now. It turns out that the DGTSV uploaded the entire list of infractions with the new UMA at 117.31 pesos, so the amounts they’re charging now are much higher than before.

What caught my attention is the part about driving without a valid license. If the traffic officers in Veracruz catch you without an up-to-date permit, the traffic fine varies quite a bit depending on who you are. Private drivers face fines between 1,876 and 3,519 pesos, but if you’re a public transportation driver, it goes up to between 3,636 and 4,692 pesos. And that’s not counting aggravating factors like repeat offenses or if you were drunk.

The good thing is there’s a 50% discount if you pay quickly, within the first few days after the fine. But of course, that only applies if it’s not a very serious offense. Other infractions have also been updated: speeding, using your phone while driving, parking where you shouldn’t, everything is more expensive now.

If you live in Veracruz and your license is expired, it’s better to get it renewed. They say you can schedule an appointment on the SEFIPLAN portal to renew it without much hassle. The traffic fines now are no joke, honestly.
