I just found out that since last February in Edomex, everything has changed regarding the fine amount for an expired license. Now it’s not a fixed amount but depends on how many infractions you’ve accumulated, which at first seemed strange to me but makes sense.
What surprised me was that the minimum fine for driving with an expired license is $1,876.96 pesos if you have no prior record, but if you already have a history of unpaid infractions, the fine for an expired license increases to $2,111.58 or up to $2,346.20 pesos in the worst case. All of this is due to the update of the UMA, which has risen to $117.31 daily.
In addition to paying, your car is impounded, so you end up spending more on towing and storage. Other infractions have also increased: using your phone while driving, parking in prohibited areas, speeding... basically everything is more expensive now. The only good thing is that if you’re up to date with your obligations, you only pay the minimum fee for the expired license fine.
I don’t know about you, but this reminds me that it’s important to keep documents up to date. Did anyone else find out late about these changes?
