Anthropic Urgent Control Claude AI Agent Core Code Leak Incident

Anthropic accidentally leaked the underlying instruction code used to power the popular AI agent application Claude Code, and is now urgently managing the situation’s impact. Claude Code has given the company a competitive edge among developers and enterprise users. As of Wednesday morning, Anthropic representatives had filed takedown requests under copyright to forcibly remove over 8,000 copies and derivative versions of the original instructions (i.e., source code) of Claude Code shared by developers on the programming platform GitHub. The company subsequently narrowed the scope of the takedown requests to only 96 copies and derivatives, stating that the initial request covered more GitHub accounts than expected. An Anthropic spokesperson said that this “partial internal source code” leak did not involve any user information or data, nor did it disclose the highly valuable core algorithm parameters (commonly called weights) of the company’s high-performance AI models that cost a lot to develop.
