AI Programming Track Competition Intensifies: Lovable Executive Says Most Concerned About OpenAI and Tech Giants

Gate News reports that on March 16, the competition in the AI programming tools sector continues to intensify. Elena Verna, Growth Director of Swedish AI startup Lovable, stated on a podcast that the company’s primary concern in the competitive landscape is not other Vibe Code startups, but technology giants with strong distribution capabilities.

Verna pointed out on the “20VC” podcast that companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Apple pose greater threats because these organizations not only possess leading AI technology but also have global product distribution capabilities and a large user base.

She believes that as AI programming tools become increasingly similar, the true factor determining market dynamics is no longer just the technology itself, but the product distribution system and user growth ability. “Who can establish stable, sustainable, and competitive distribution channels is more likely to dominate the market,” Verna said.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, Lovable is currently in a rapid expansion phase. By December 2025, after a funding round led by CapitalG and Menlo Ventures, the company’s valuation reached approximately $6.6 billion. Currently, Lovable competes with startups like Cursor, Replit, and Emergent in the AI programming field, while also facing challenges from AI programming tools developed by large tech companies.

Recently, the AI developer community has discussed product performance. With Anthropic launching a new version of its AI model, Opus 4.6, some developers on social platforms have indicated they might switch to using the programming tool Claude Code based on that model, reducing their use of other subscription tools.

Despite fierce competition, Lovable’s business growth remains strong. Data shows that the company’s annual recurring revenue increased from $300 million to $400 million in just one month. Chief Revenue Officer Ryan Meadows stated that the company plans to expand its staff from 146 to about 350 by the end of 2026.

Currently, Lovable focuses on AI development tools that lower the barrier to programming, with over 200,000 new Vibe Coding projects created daily on the platform. As demand for AI programming tools continues to grow, competition in this field is expected to further intensify.
